Meeting Tuesday 5 June 2018

Post by Tony Ong » Wed May 30, 2018 11:19 am

Hi all
Another Boneheads trip done and dusted. We will have a trip report on Boneheads at a future meeting, as Graeme will not be able to attend this coming meeting.
Steve and myself did a few days up in Karratha last year, and we really liked what we saw. A return trip was planned with better tides in mind. It just so happened that the planets aligned, and tides were pretty good adding it onto the end of our Boneheads trip. Karratha is very much a mining town. In the mining boom, it was very hard to get accommodation in town. With the current downturn, it was a good opportunity to visit. There's quite a few fly fishers in Karratha, and little snippets of information has been filtering out about how good the fishing is in Karratha. Many thanks to the guys that gave us the heads up on the lay of the land. We only had 5 days fishing, and sampled just a little of what Karratha has to offer. We concentrated on the flats for blue bastards the 5 days that we were there. This trip, we were joined by Dave and Eric. Martin flew up and fished with Chris. Simon brought the winds up with him on the back of our trip. Dave will be giving a trip report on how we went up there. Hopefully the other boys will chime in with their experiences as well.
The second activity this month will be fishing the flats by boat. The focus of this talk will be on tropical flats, but will have applications for shallow water bream fishing in our southern estuaries, as well as some tips for the shore based guys headed up north. Lots of little tips and techniques that we have picked up over the years.
The next field day is Moore River. Andre will post up more details of this.
Graeme is unable to attend this meeting, so there will not be a casting session before the meeting.
Hope to see you there.
