Meeting Tuesday 6 March 2018

Post by Tony Ong » Thu Mar 01, 2018 7:10 pm

Hi all
Another meeting just around the corner.
This month, we have the following.
The Last field day was a return to Walpole. We haven't had a Walpole field day for quite a few years, as the fishing on the flats has declined significantly over the years. The committee decided to revisit Walpole, as we have a few new tricks up our sleeve to tackle the fish. Bream on popper flies, and whiting flies as shown to us by Dan at Flyworld. Come along and hear how we fared.
Cocos Keeling Island has been in the spotlight the last 6 mons or so. Lots of posts on social media, and quite a few members taking a trip to see what the fuss is all about. This trip report is one not to miss, and we will discuss tackle and tactics. Sharks were an issue, but we have some ideas on how to combat them. Bonefish are not the only species on offer.
Steve will be tying a spawning shrimp, which he used to great effect on Cocos bones. It's also been very successful on quite a few flats species around this Australia.
Later this month, we have a tying day. Will post up details in a separate post. Please note that there is a new venue this year. Many thanks to Rohan and Bluewater Melville for hosting these days the last few years.
Hope to see you at the meeting
