Post by Dale » Wed Feb 14, 2018 2:43 pm

Could anybody give me advice on how long the worm material should be on the "worm fly" to be affective. And best colours works best. any light on this will be much appreciated.

I think your best bet is to go in to Flyworld and see the man himself. Give him a day or two's notice and he can bring a few of his ones into the shop and discuss the whys and wherefores with you.

Cheers,
Graeme

Ah, best to call first before visiting ... :(

Next best suggestion is to phone him and talk it through then. I can offer advice on the ones I tie, but I think he probably does a better job.

If you're attending the tying day on the 25th, someone will be able to show you. (I'm in Victoria that weekend.)

Hi Dale
2x the hook shank length. This is assuming you are using scud style hooks. X-small tungsten eyes on #12 hooks. Small Tungsten eyes on #10 hooks. Make sure that you get the heavy wire hooks if you are targeting bream. I had a couple of hooks straighten when I used the standard wire. You also want to use the vernille chenille.

Hi Tony many thanks for your info most useful. Im using exactly what Dan makes same hooks and tungsten eyes (small) I have bought the vernille chenille in red with gold treading and a creamy sandy colour, Do you singe the tip of the chenille until a black head forms, or do you seal it with UV glue?

You want the standard vernille chenille. Doesn't seem to make a difference if you have a straight cut, or if you singe the end of the chenille.
