Tying Day Sunday 20 March 2016

Post by Tony Ong » Mon Mar 14, 2016 4:55 pm

Hi all
We have a tying day coming up this Sunday. A couple of the newer members reminded some of the committee at the field day that this has been pencilled into the club calendar.
Thanks to Rohan, the tying day will be held at Bluewater Myaree. 85 North Lake Rd, Myaree.
Will likely be held downstairs, so just let the guys behind the counter know that you are there for the tying day. It's a great venue for a tying day, as if you're short on something, you can always go upstairs to 'top up.'
If there is something that you would like to learn to tie, please post here, so a couple of the more experienced Tyers into the club can bring the relevant materials along on the day to demonstrate.
The club also has some vices and materials for those that don't have gear for the day.
This weekend's weather looks just about perfect for a tying day. The format is kept informal, and it's a good opportunity to top up that fly box.
Starting at 10.30am.
Hope to see you there.

Remember, while there is parking at Bluewater, sometimes it fills up. If you can't find a spot, I recommend parking across North Lake Road somewhere (but nowhere specific ... ;) )

Actually, good point , we have a catalogue out this weekend so it will be busy. Please leave parking at the front for customers. Use rear parking first option , filling all spaces even if not marked, can park in front of rear loading dock ( 3 cars fit ) and even on the corners as no trucks are coming past on the weekend. Use the underneath park as second option but not at the front of the store please, customers will fill that and still be looking for somewhere. Across the road at Community newspapers is pretty empty on weekends so if you don't have too much to carry it would be very helpful if you could park there. Not at the dance club though please as they really will crack it. Cheers.

If there are vices and tools I wouldnt mind learning how to tie that fly I lost that snapper on. Seems to work for pretty much everything! Think it was a crazy charlie / gotcha or something. I think Steve knows what the name of it. My own flytying gear should be arriving on Wednesday next week. Looking forward to that!

Cheers,

Dee :)

Hey Dee, I'll show you how to tie that 'Gotcha' no worries, it's probably one of the most famous, popular and older styles of American flats flies of all time, besides Charlie Smiths original 'Crazy charlie' (Nasty charlie). There is also a smaller Bonefish version in the tying section on the website already.

Cheers
Steve

The good thing about the most effective flies like Charlies, Gotcha's, Clousers and Deceicers is that they are also the easiest to tie. :D
