Thanks Troy,

My brother says they hasn't been much rain up there yet.

He has highlighted the weed beds and so has Gilbo. So I think we wlll be spending some time fishing around them.

Gilbo has said I make sure I fish Tararra Bar.

Yes Tararra bar is a good spot, and one of the few places you can cast a fly from the shore, the other one would be in the rapids below D4. Being basalt rock they heat up quickly so they are good for a dawn raid.

I loved fishing the weed beds so much I ended up developing my own fly for it. The "Tara special". which is a combo of a bendback, deceiver and a thing/whistler fly

bend back hook around 2/0 size
dual mono weed guard
white deceiver style body, with chartreuse topping
chartreuse collar out of two hackles or a rabbit strip
bead chain eyes.

I fished with either an intermediate or sinking line. An intermediate is probably better for weed beds but invariably I would have a sinking line on as I liked thin sinking lines like stripers on the Ord as the current is so strong you want the fly to sink down pretty quick with minimal drag in the belly of the line

Not all weed beds are equal, Find weeds beds with characteristics like:
current trickling over them,
eddies,
channels and
lagoons behind them

Best time to fish them is early or late. Poppers can be fun if fish are surface feeding
