Saltwater Flyrodders

Considering a trip to shark bay either late this year or early next. Exmouth is in my comfort zone and while its always good, I want to try somewhere else, money is a little tighter while building a new house, and closer is always welcome.

Have read the article by Morsie in issue 74 of Flylife regarding the shore fishing in Shark Bay. I have a boat that I can take anyway, but shore fishing is very appealing to me, just to keep it all simple. Not going to fill up the engel, just want some unwinding time and to explore somewhere new and hopefully catch a few fish as a bonus.

Anyone able to give me any more pointers or tips for something like this?

Take the boat Brad. Not many shore based options if you're up there for a week. Would look carefully at time of year. It's a windy part of our coastline. Around Easter seems to be a favourable time of year.
Be prepared to do the miles. There's miles of flats, but a lot of them are barren. Lots of options, but you have to travel.
When you do find ground, the fishing is fantastic.
I've only done a couple of trips up there and will definitely be back. Been pretty lucky with the weather and the fishing was red hot both times. It's a beautiful part of the world.

Have been given some solid spots for shore based work by a friend, wont be easy from shore and boat could definitely open up more area but Im thinking more than likely the trip will be in blowvember and taking the boat could be a weeks worth of a waste of towing it up wind wise, where shore based I can always find a spot out of the wind. I will ponder it a bit more and try asking a few more people what they do when they go there.
