Well, tried the north mole first, no joy down there but I did get to test out my new streamer express fast sink. Looking forward to getting more use out of that! Then I went to fish the canning bridge area, ended up getting the bridges mixed up and was fishing some flats on the way down to mount henry bridge I think its called. Caught a puffer fish there and I think there were salmon trout rising but I didnt have a floating line with me so my intermediate kept pulling in weed with every cast. Met up with Nigel then and we parked up at the club house and started fishing the Canning Bridge. On the way back we spotted a shoal of no less than 1000 brim on the other side of the bridge with some donkeys seen feeding in amongst them all. So rejuvinated with the hopeful success of catching one of these I waded out to cast into them under the guidance of Nigel up on the bridge telling me where they were. The brim kept following the flies and I got two pulls but none of them would take it. I think its because I was pulling the fly across the current and not trotting it down to them. Any ideas?

So ya, I blanked again! lol  But its my first time fishing for these fish. Sorry I didnt meet up with anyone after to see how you all got on but my nuts had shriveled up inside me so it was time to go home, warm up and see if I could pull them back out! lol :D

Cheers,

Dee :D

Fish the diagonal opposite side of the bridge on a low leading to high (summer tides).

Much better ground.

Ha Ha, i tried off the "raffles' jetty for a while, a massive school of large bream has been sitting there for weeks, they were , as usual this time of year extremely spooky and disinterested in anything. You were probably as close to doing the right thing if you managed a few follows and strikes. All i can say is vary the fly a bit cast as far upside as you can and strip it back slowly with twitches , using the tide to carry the fly as it would any other form of food rather than going sideways or against it. Theory has it that Bream feed on mussels this time of year, i'm still contemplating how to tie a mussel fly that is useable and not an imitation of a rock ! It does show just how many big beam are in the river though, i really think that these fish would be much more catchable at night ( on fly )
