Hey, everyone.

I'm a Canadian guy that moved to Perth in 2011 for work. Been trying to find like minded fishos around with relatively few hookups.

Being a trout and salmon guy back home, a lot of the fly species to target here are new to me, and having been working away a lot in the last 3 years, I've logged almost no time on the water.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to spending some time on here and maybe getting involved in some fly swaps. Been meaning to get to one of the SWFWA meetings, but I seem to always be out of town for the first Tuesday of the month.

Tight lines.

G'day Steve,

Welcome to the site and the club. If you can't make it to the club nights, maybe one of the field days or the upcoming tying day might be a good chance to meet up.

Cheers,
Graeme

Hi, Graeme.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm hoping to make it to the tying day on the 23rd. I'm as keen as it gets - if there's something on, I'll be dying to come around for it.

Cheers.

I have steelhead flies if you want to swap for them!

Haha!

I don't need steelhead flies at all. I have a whole pile of them that I left with friends back in Canada.

Wouldn't mind doing a fly swap for some Australian species, though!

Yeah my mate Mike sends a few down every year with his yearly Perth box he ties when cabin fever season kicks in.
He stocks up on all of that feathery stuff before the great lakes steelhead season kicks off.
I have a few nice intruders & the like therefore in my boxes.
Still have heaps of flies kicking around from Exmouth last year- you're welcome to a couple if you need some inspiration.

Great Lakes "Steelhead" are a touchy subject for a lot of guys from BC. The elitist guys argue that they aren't steelhead, because they aren't sea run. They're right, but I don't see the point in bringing semantics into fly fishing when a hog is a hog. They fight like bastards apparently, so what's the problem?

I'd be super keen to borrow some flies as a template, Mat.

I was also going to say that I have some downtime this weekend and was wondering if anybody was keen for a flick on Saturday, although Sunday looks to be the better day for wind. Might start another thread to see who's keen.

Hi Steve and welcome

Like Graeme mentioned, we have tying day on the 23rd at Bluewater Tackel World (Melville shop -85-87 North Lake Rd
Myaree, WA 6154). I think the tying starts between 10:00am and 11:00am or when the shop opens.

But if you can't make it, here is a short list of flies I use in the Metro area:

Clousers:
* Sizes = 2 - 6
* Colours = white over white, yellow over white, olive over white, tan over white, chartruse over white. Some with flash and some without flash

Deceivers:
* Size = 1 - 4
* Colours = white over white, yellow over white, olive over white, tan over white.

Sufr Candy's:
* Size = 2 - 8
* Colours = tan, olive, yellow, white

Charlie's:
* Size = 4 -10
* Colours = yellow, olive, tan, white, brown

Squimps:
* Size = 2 - 6
* Colours = tan, olive, brown

Poppers:
* Size = 1 - 8
* Colours = white, tan, yellow

There are other flies you can use but these have proven themselfs in my fishing adventures.
