Saltwater Flyrodders

I had a discussion with tony at the casting day about milkfish & hooks small enough with enough strength to hold up from wild runs of milkfish! I think ive found some hooks which are small with HEAPS of balls.. they are a hook designed in japan for serious carp fishing they are called FOX Kuro Coated S2 hooks.. they look BRUTALLY STRONG! bit of a weird shape but you can get a range of different shapes! they come in sizes #8, #6, #4 etc.. Im going to tye some weed flies on them! ill post pictures later!

Looks an interesting hook Steve. Let us know how you go. I've used Mustad Tarpons #6 in the past and they have held up well. The hooks that some others have put me onto is the Owner Flyliner. I've ties some of these for milkies, but since then, haven't come across them in numbers. Will have to remember to put them back into the fly box.

thats a good call actually mustad tarpon hooks! Ive made a few.. these hooks are okay.. they are tuff as nails.. ive played with the idea of putting foam on the shank and applying the dubbing over the top.. if you put alot of thread over the foam you can nearly shrink it right down.. and they float faily well.. anyone want to go chase buff bream? ill tag along

Don't want to scrunch the foam right down. It won't float as high.

Reckon you might be well under-gunned using a 6wt for buffies! 9 to 11wts will be more appropriate - these things grow to well over 10kg and pull like freight trains!
