Looking for advice on how to display flies in a picture frame

Hi Guy's,

my sister in law wanted to make a present for her dad Nicky who is an avid flyfisher back home. Mainly trout, salmon, sea trout and sea bass, some of you may have met him at the odd club meet with me once or twice. So she asked me to let her tie three flies in different colours, one representing her, and the other two representing her two daughters so that she could then display them in a photograph frame and give it to her dad. We have tied up three nice flies, and she has done very very well I might add! A 2O Clouser, Size 2 surf candy and a size 2 crazy charlie gotcha. Now we are trying to figure out how to hang / display these within the photo frame. Ideally they would be out a bit from the backing so you can get the shadows and writing under each fly.

Any advice on how we could go about mounting these? Have thought about sticking a pin into the card and gluing the hook to the pin (not sure how this would hold up, especially on the flight back home), or else maybe use those crocodile clips people use for holding individual photos.

Will load a pic or two of the flies when I figure out how to now that photobucket has stopped working.

Cheers,

Dee
:)

Dee you’ll need a shadow box it’s a frame with a recessed box to what ever depth you require.then the glass and fancy frame around it.
Black or white background, a thin piece of tube matching the background with mono or wire will hold out the fly from the box, giving the illusion it’s floating and you can put the small tag under it.

Thanks Peter,

that sounds like it could be a good option as well. Will see what I can dig up!
