Yep, 6wt was great fun and worth taking when you find an area holding smaller fish.

I had my regular bream line, a rio camolux intermediate line, on the rod and wished I had rather had something like a SA streamer express 150gr on it for the size 2 clousers we were throwing around.

Just wondering regarding lines. Would i need to get a tropical line or not so much for exmouth ??

Hi Matt. Lines that can cope with heat are the go in Exmouth. Particularly if fishing from a boat - decks can get very hot.

Yep will mostly be land based. But is it a hot time of year up there ?? just i dont really want too go get
a bunch of lines just for one trip if i live down the South west. Cheers

You can probably get by with one of the less noodly cold-water lines like Rio Perception, especially when wading. But the other thing to consider is that many of these tropical lines still work okay in our "colder" climates. They are marketed as "tropical", but they state in the specs that they work in ambient temps of around 26°C. I regularly use my tropical lines in Perth, even in the coldest part of the year. Our winters in Perth hardly compare with those in North America, where these lines are aimed.

My salmon from yesterday were caught on a Rio Outbound Short Tropical line. Sure, the coils don't lay flat on the deck sometimes, but the flip side is that I rarely get tangles in the running line because it's pretty stiff, and because of that, it shoots very well.

I also use the 6wt Rio Bonefish line in the Swan most of the year for the same reasons.

My point is that you may end up using the tropical line you'd buy for Boneheads much more than you think. Don't completely rule them out as being applicable in Albany.

Hi Matt. Work out which rod you will be using most on the trip in the 8 - 10 weight range. Rio Saltwater intermediate to match will just about see you through the week. The other option is a intermediate sink tip line with floating running line. Sometimes a little easier to manage if you don't like using stripping baskets.
September in Exmouth shouldn't be excessively hot. Lines that you use in Albany should handle the conditions fine. Pick up one tropical line will just be insurance in case the heat moves in early.
Bluewater Exmouth holds limited stocks of lines in the popular sizes.

Yeh was thinking a sink tip for wading might be helpful.

Think ill be carrying an 8 most of the time but with a back up 10 incase something bigger comes along. Yeh tryed a stripping
baskets and feel a bit restricted so a sink tip might be the way too go. Thanks for the info Tony. Will talk too Chris and Flyworld and sought out some lines.. Cheers

I just came back 4-5weeks ago from a few days down in Exmouth I had no problems wading with the Rio Tropical Saltwater Floating with a clear sink tip with out a stripping basket... but you only usually run into problems when you see a permit or bonefish in casting distance.. happened to me anyway lol!

Why do you say that Stephen. Is it a problem to get the fly down with a floating/ sinking tip?
